June 2021 Meeting of BMUG

Our next BMUG meeting has been converted back to a Zoom Meeting on Tuesday June 8 at 3.00 pm . Zoom meeting details will be sent to everyone before the meeting.

We had hoped for our next meeting to include a presentation on the Geelong Sustainability project of providing pathways for the local community to add solar panels and/or batteries to their homes. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Geelong Sustainability group has been forced to postpone both the BMUG presentation and their own roadshow. In the interim they are providing webinars, the first of which was on Wednesday June 2. BMUG members were invited to participate or, after the fact, hopefully to find a recording of the webinar.

Another of the topics for our meeting will be the new features Apple have announced to help with the use of the hardware and software - what is called accessibility and is often very useful for everyone, once they know about it. See https://www.bellarinemac.org.au/resources/meeting-notes/151-new-accessibility-features-for-iphone-ipad-and-applewatch

We will also consider the following:

  • the new 'Alfred App' that you may like to use instead of Spotlight;
  • the Hazel App - an automated organiser;
  • Vuescan - MacOS scanner software to resurrect your old scanners, and
  • WWDC News.

As international holidays seem to be fading from possibility in the near term, we would like to initiate virtual trips for our  crews. If you have had a holiday somewhere interesting and taken so pics, why not make a short travelogue for your family and for us? We will discuss how to do this and hopefully it will become a special feature of our meetings - cheaper than going on the real trip - rmember!

Geelong+ Community Solar program webinar

The webinar covered the following items and we plan in the near future to make the information available to members:

  • Why we must transition to clean energy ASAP
    How solar and batteries work
    What you should consider when going solar or installing batteries
    How much a system can save on power bills and how much a system costs
    What products, brands and technologies were selected and why
    Extra options like an EV charger or efficient heat pump hot water systems

    If you managed to attend this event, please us feedback to help us anticipate the interest of others for the future.
